Our Coach
Professor Troy Manning

Professor Troy Manning started martial arts training in the 1980's in Taekwondo.
Then in the 1990's started training in Karate, Kung Fu, Boxing, Kickboxing, Judo, Wrestling, Hapkido and in 1999 he began his training journey in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Troy achieved coloured belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Black Belt in Hapkido and boxing coach certification in the 2000's.

His first taste of coaching was on the Gold Coast where he was mainly coaching boxing throughout a few gyms across the coast and was running Security Defense Tactics Programs while he was training BJJ and working as a security guard at many night clubs on the Gold Coast.

In 2007 Troy opened up his first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym in Wagga Wagga NSW and ran the gym for many years until moving to Brisbane QLD and took up a full-time head coaching job where he coached Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts and Muay Thai. In that time, he coached a number of MMA fighters to victory and seen them win MMA title belts. Troy also studied Massage Therapy so he could offer his fighters good recovery treatment from hard training camps as well.

After some time, he moved to Toowoomba QLD and once again opened up his own gym and in that time coached many more MMA fighters and produced more title belt holders and had a long successful winning streak of coaching MMA athletes. Even winning an all-expenses paid for trip to the USA to promote Australian MMA.
In 2014 he achieved his blackbelt and then started focusing 100% of his BJJ on No Gi Jiu Jitsu and did in-depth study on other No Gi Grappling art forms such as Catch Wrestling and Brazilian Luta Livre to further his knowledge in the art of No Gi. He also made a number of training trips to Thailand where he studied Muay Thai and achieved his coaching certification to become a more rounded coach for his MMA athletes.

Troy then moved to Cairns QLD and now runs a gym in one of Australia's most famous tourist destination places. Since being in Cairns, he has focused a lot of his time in coaching submission grappling Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athletes and has had students win many local and state level comps. While being up in Cairns, he has put a lot of time into developing instructional videos and since doing so he has sold 1000's worldwide. He has also started up an Association (World Grappling Alliance) and would one day like to have many gyms under the banner and grow the grappling art community and bring all No Gi grappling styles into the limelight.
